SAYHUSH FIELD NOTES

How to update Sayhush from the DMG on your Mac

By · Reviewed

To update Sayhush, finish your draft, quit the running app, download the current DMG and drag Sayhush into Applications. Choose Replace for the installed copy, then launch it from Applications and test one short recording. Replacing the app is different from deleting its data.

Finish work and check the installed copy

Stop or cancel the current recording and preserve any text you need before quitting. Quit Sayhush from its menu-bar menu. If you have multiple copies in Downloads or another folder, make sure you know which one is running. An older process can keep handling the shortcut even after a newer app has been copied onto the disk.

Use the official download

Download the DMG from sayhush.app and open it. The current app requires Apple Silicon and macOS 14 or later. Drag Sayhush to Applications. When Finder asks whether to keep both or replace the existing app, choose Replace for the installation you intend to update. Do not keep a second copy merely to complete a normal update.

Launch from Applications

Open Sayhush from Applications, then eject the mounted installer. Avoid continuing to launch the app from the DMG. Use the application version shown by the installed app or Finder’s Get Info to confirm which build you opened. This guide does not assume a silent automatic updater; it describes the DMG replacement workflow.

Check permissions without erasing everything

Open the app’s settings and refresh the permission state. Microphone and Accessibility serve separate purposes. If macOS asks about the updated installation, review that prompt. Do not reset all privacy permissions or remove Keychain items as a first troubleshooting step. Those changes can affect access and are not required for ordinary app replacement.

Understand what replacement preserves

The application bundle is separate from local settings and history storage. Replacing it is not a command to clear saved history or delete your service account. Export text you cannot afford to lose before troubleshooting, and keep the export somewhere appropriate. If login is requested, use the email sign-in flow; production dictation does not require your own transcription API key.

Run a small update check

In a disposable text field, tap the shortcut, say one sentence and tap again. Test Pause and Resume separately if you use them. Check that the intended version handled the shortcut and that text appeared. If not, record the version, macOS version, destination app and exact error for support. The existing insertion guide covers the next checks.

Your quick checklist

  1. Finish the draft and quit the old app.
  2. Download the official DMG and replace the Applications copy.
  3. Launch from Applications and eject the installer.
  4. Check the version and a short recording.
