SAYHUSH FIELD NOTES

Find, export and delete Sayhush dictation history

By · Reviewed

Sayhush history is optional text storage on your Mac. Use History to search and copy entries, export them, change retention or delete them. Signing into the same account on another Mac does not synchronize this history.

Understand what history contains

Finished dictations can be saved as text when Save history is enabled. This is not an audio archive, a meeting recording or a cloud document. Local storage is encrypted using a key in macOS Keychain. That protection applies to the stored history; it does not automatically protect text after you paste it into another app or export it to a file.

Find a previous thought

Open History and enter a distinctive word or phrase in Search your dictations. Search matches transcript text without requiring the original capitalization. Each entry includes its date and word count. Use the entry’s Copy text control or select the relevant passage. If a search returns nothing, try a shorter phrase and check whether history was enabled when the recording finished.

Choose a retention period

The Keep for picker offers 7 days, 30 days or Until deleted. The default is 30 days, and the store keeps up to 1,000 recent dictations. Until deleted therefore does not mean an unlimited archive. If a transcript matters beyond that window or capacity, save it in the document where it belongs. History is a recovery convenience, not your only copy of important work.

Export deliberately

Export creates an ordinary plain-text file. Choose a location you control and review it before uploading or sharing it. The current Export control exports the stored history, not just the entries matching the search field. A filtered view is not a privacy filter for the export. If you need only one passage, copy that passage instead of exporting the whole collection.

Turn off saving or remove entries

Turning Save history off stops new saves; it does not erase existing entries. Delete an individual entry with its trash control, or use Clear and confirm to remove all local history. Export anything you want to retain before clearing. Deleting history does not retract text already pasted into a document, sent in a message, copied by another clipboard tool or saved in an earlier export.

Keep account and history tasks separate

Account sign-in manages your service access and minute balance. History remains on the Mac where it was created, and signing out does not delete it. To prepare a shared Mac for someone else, review both account sign-out and local history controls. For account-deletion requests, use the support contact in the privacy notice; clearing History is not an account-deletion request.

Your quick checklist

  1. Search for a distinctive phrase.
  2. Copy one entry or export the stored collection.
  3. Choose a retention period.
  4. Turn off future saves or delete existing entries separately.
