Start with a short message
Sayhush turns microphone speech into text in your existing Mac apps. Click a text field, tap Control–Option–Space, speak, and tap again to insert. Start with a disposable note so you can check recognition and insertion before using it for important writing.
Check your Mac first
This release supports Apple Silicon Macs (M1 or later) running macOS 14 or newer. It requires an internet connection. It is not an Intel Mac app, an offline transcription engine, or a meeting recorder. You can check your chip and macOS version in About This Mac.
Install one copy
Download the DMG from the Sayhush homepage. Open it and drag Sayhush into Applications. If updating, quit the running app before choosing Replace. Launch the copy in Applications, then eject the installer. Keeping several older copies running can cause shortcut conflicts and confusing permission prompts.
Sign in and allow access
Open Account in the app and enter your email. Enter the newest code from your inbox. You do not need a transcription API key. In Settings, allow Microphone for recording and Accessibility for inserting text, then refresh the permission status. These are separate macOS permissions; enabling one does not enable the other.
Try one complete recording
Open a note and click where the text should go. Tap Control–Option–Space once. Wait for the dock to show Listening, then say a short sentence. Tap again, or use Stop on the right of the cloud. Leave the cursor in the original field until insertion finishes. Review the words before sending the message.
Pause without losing the draft
Pause is on the left of the cloud. It stops microphone capture and finishes the current segment without inserting it. Wait for Paused, then use Resume to continue. Stop inserts the combined draft. Paused time sends no audio. Escape cancels the draft without inserting.
Make it comfortable
Settings lets you customize the shortcut or opt into hold-to-talk. If a custom editor prevents insertion, use Copy Latest Transcript in the menu and paste manually. Optional encrypted history stays on this Mac. The free allowance is 30 minutes per calendar month, so you can try your own languages and apps before considering paid minutes.
