sayhushSayhush needs an internet connection to transcribe speech. Optional local text history does not provide offline recognition. If a recording fails, preserve any transcript that is available and test the connection with a short new recording before relying on a longer draft.
Know which part needs the network
The app captures microphone speech on your Mac and uses an online transcription service. Existing saved history can be a separate local resource, but it cannot recognize new speech offline. There is no hidden downloaded speech model to enable in Settings. If you regularly work without connectivity, evaluate a tool that explicitly supports local recognition.
Preserve what is available first
If the app has a completed transcript, use Copy Latest Transcript or the relevant History entry where available. Do not assume a failed session is recoverable: the app does not keep an audio recording for later retranscription. Save available text to your intended document before restarting or troubleshooting.
Check connectivity without changing everything
Confirm that normal websites load and note the exact app error. A connection issue is different from an account or permission error. Avoid replacing credentials, resetting privacy permissions or changing network settings blindly. If an organization manages the connection, follow its support process rather than attempting to bypass its rules.
Try one short sentence
After connectivity returns, open a disposable text field and record a short sentence. Check both recognition and insertion. If the same error repeats, note the app version, macOS version, time and error text for support. Omit sensitive transcript contents. A successful website request does not alone prove that the transcription connection is working.
Use smaller drafts on unreliable connections
For a connection that drops unpredictably, short completed recordings reduce the amount of uninserted work at risk. Stop, review and save each section. Pause is useful for thinking, but it does not turn the session into an offline recording archive. For work that cannot tolerate an interruption, use a suitable offline tool or type the draft.
Choose an offline product for an offline requirement
The local-or-cloud comparison explains the different processing choices. Local speech models still require appropriate hardware and usually an initial model download. Verify recognition with the network disconnected using that product’s documented setup. Sayhush should not be purchased on the assumption that encrypted local history means offline transcription.
