SAYHUSH FIELD NOTES

How to dictate a project update people can act on

By · Reviewed

A useful spoken project update answers three questions: what changed, what is blocked, and what decision or action comes next. Dictate the facts first, then manually separate them into a short update. Sayhush transcribes your draft; it does not assign tasks or verify progress.

Prepare three facts before recording

Write down the completed change, the remaining dependency and the next checkpoint. Use a specific date where a relative phrase could confuse someone reading later. If you do not know an owner or deadline, leave it open. Filling a quiet moment with an invented commitment makes an update less useful, even if the prose sounds confident.

An illustrative spoken draft

You might say: “The settings screen is ready for internal review. Export is still blocked because we haven’t agreed the file format. Can Priya confirm CSV or JSON by Thursday? Once that is decided, I can estimate the export work.” This is an original teaching example, not a recorded transcript or an automatic Sayhush rewrite. Notice that it separates completed work from work that has not been estimated.

Edit it into a scannable update

After insertion, manually turn the paragraph into three lines: “Ready: settings screen for internal review.” “Blocked: export format undecided.” “Decision needed: Priya to confirm CSV or JSON by Thursday.” Keep the final sentence about estimating after the decision if it affects expectations. Add the actual calendar date before sharing with people in different schedules.

Keep uncertainty visible

Do not change “ready for internal review” to “launched,” or “can estimate” to “will deliver.” Read the update as someone who was not in the room. Can they tell what is already true and what depends on another decision? Review the name, file formats and date against your source notes. Transcription cannot establish whether a promise is authorized.

Use the recording controls to think

In Sayhush, click the intended draft field and tap the shortcut. Pause from the floating dock if you need to check your notes; wait for Paused before continuing. Resume to add the remaining sentence, then Stop to insert. Keep the original field selected. Do not dictate while another person’s meeting audio is playing as a substitute for a meeting recorder.

Finish with a useful next step

Remove details that do not change the reader’s next action. If the update is for a group, make the request and its owner easy to find. Read it once before posting; Sayhush does not send it. Reuse the three-part structure for the next update while changing the facts, rather than repeating an empty “making good progress” paragraph.

Your quick checklist

  1. State one completed change.
  2. Separate a blocker from a delivery promise.
  3. Verify the owner and date.
  4. Review the message before sending.
